Artist Studio – Active Construction

  • ARCHITECT: B-KD (Büro Koray Duman) – B-KD Website
  • SCOPE:  Currently Under Construction – 2,500 SQF Ground up residential with art studio

Located in Germantown, NY, the Artist Studio build is a play on a conventional barn structure, the area’s most prevalent agricultural typology. Using the formal operations; bending, carving, and tilting, the design places the entrance and ceramic studio towards the north, and a mezzanine bedroom towards west.

Large and uniquely shaped windows installed high up and facing north to provide natural lighting for the ceramic studio. The first floor mainly focuses on art studio space and houses a living room that opens to a deck facing farmland. The second floor has a deck that connects to the mezzanine bedroom

Black stained cedar shingles cover the exterior walls facing east and west, as well as roof. The southern and northern end of the barn form are supported with poured in place concrete, stepped back to amplify the profile of the barn structure.
